Sec. 1. 14 MRSA §171 is enacted to read:

§171.__Inspections by municipal fire departments

A municipal fire department, volunteer fire association or fire ward that inspects a chimney or wood stove or any other heating device or appliance may not be held liable for any claim arising from death or injury to a person or damage to property that may result if any alterations are made to any inspected item or installation after the inspection occurs.

SUMMARY

This bill provides immunity to a municipal fire department, volunteer fire association or fire ward that inspects a chimney or wood stove or any other heating device or appliance if alterations are made after the inspection has taken place.
