| | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | | Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §10909 is enacted to read: |

| | | §10909.__Receipt of payments from recipients of military |

| | | educational assistance benefits |

| | | 1.__Definition.__For the purposes of this section, unless the | | context indicates otherwise, "recipient of a military educational | | assistance benefit" means a person who has been determined to be | | eligible for a federal educational benefit program for military | | personnel or veterans. |

| | | 2.__Prohibition on assessing fees.__The university may not | | charge a late fee or any other additional fee to a recipient of a | | military educational assistance benefit who selects the option of | | providing payments for tuition and fees on a monthly or other | | installment payment plan basis for the recipient's education | | program. |

| | | This bill prohibits the University of Maine System from | | charging a late fee or any other additional fee to a recipient of | | a federal military educational assistance benefit. |
