Sec. 1. Determination of need for teachers of modern and classical languages.
Resolved: That the Department of Education shall determine if
there is a shortage of teachers in the areas of modern and
classical languages in public and private institutions of
learning in this State. If the department determines that there
is a shortage, the department shall determine whether any
shortage is the result of a lack of college students selecting
language as a field of study or the institutions' failure to
retain those teachers. The department shall determine what
methods, such as scholarships and grants, may be used to reduce
the shortage. The department shall report back to the Joint
Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs by January
15, 2006 with the department's determination and any necessary
implementing legislation. The Joint Standing Committee on
Education may report out a bill to the Second Regular Session of
the 122nd Legislature implementing the recommendations of the
department.
