Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §2706 is enacted to read:

§2706. Emergency services personnel; participation in group

health plan offered to municipal employees

If a group health plan is made available to municipal employees, a municipality must offer coverage under that group health plan to a person employed by or under contract to a municipality or municipalities to provide emergency services as defined in section 451, subsection 5.__A municipality is not required to pay any portion of the premium for the group health plan for a person eligible for coverage under this section unless required to do so under a collective bargaining agreement or other contractual obligation.

SUMMARY

This bill requires a municipality to offer coverage under a group health plan provided to its employees to a person employed by or under contract with the municipality to provide emergency services. The bill does not require that a municipality pay for coverage for emergency services personnel.
