Sec. 1. 24-A MRSA §2188 is enacted to read:

§2188.__Steering in automobile insurance prohibited

An insurer may not steer a claimant for damage to an automobile to a particular repair shop or garage and may not deny a claim because a claimant refuses to have the damage repaired at a repair shop or garage recommended by the insurer.

SUMMARY

This bill prohibits automobile insurers from steering claimants to particular repair shops or garages and prohibits an insurer from denying a claim because a claimant refuses to have the damage repaired at a repair shop or garage recommended by the insurer.
