Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §1913-A, sub-§1, ¶H, as amended by PL 1999, c. 152, Pt. G, §2, is further amended to read:

H. Signs bearing political messages relating to an election, primary or referendum, provided that these.__These signs may not be placed within the right-of-way prior to 6 weeks before the election, primary or referendum to which they relate and must be removed by the candidate or political committee not later than one week thereafter.__A political sign must be placed at least 3 feet from the paved surface of the public way and must be placed with permission of the landowner of the nearest property abutting the right- of-way; and

SUMMARY

This bill restricts the placement of political signs to at least 3 feet from the paved surface of public ways and requires receiving permission from abutting landowners.
