Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §1559-A is enacted to read:

§1559-A.__Purchasing of prescription drugs and other medication

for prisoners

The sheriff of any county may purchase and store prescription drugs and other medications in bulk quantities to be administered to prisoners as authorized by section 1559.__ The sheriff may delegate the authority to purchase and store prescription drugs and other medications to the jail administrator or the jail administrator's designee or the facility health care provider.

SUMMARY

This bill authorizes sheriffs to purchase and store prescription drugs and other medications in bulk quantities to be administered to prisoners in county jails.
