| | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | | Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §5051, sub-§2, ¶G is enacted to read: |

| | | G.__When a student is determined habitually truant and in | | violation of section 5001-A, the superintendent may notify | | the Secretary of State of that determination.__After | | notification, the Secretary of State may suspend the | | driver's license or driving privileges of that student in | | accordance with Title 29-A, section 154-B. |

| | | Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §154-B is enacted to read: |

| | | §154-B.__Suspension for truancy |
|
| | | When notified by a school superintendent that a student has | | been determined habitually truant under Title 20-A, section | | 5051, the Secretary of State may notify the student in writing | | that the student's driver's license or driving privileges are | | suspended.__Suspension of a license or driving privileges | | under this section is for a period of 180 days for the first | | occurrence and one year for each subsequent occurrences. |

| | | This bill authorizes the Secretary of State to suspend the | | driver's license or driving privileges of a student who is | | determined "habitually truant." |
