Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §5051, sub-§2, ¶G is enacted to read:

 
G.__When a student is determined habitually truant and in
violation of section 5001-A, the superintendent may notify
the Secretary of State of that determination.__After
notification, the Secretary of State may suspend the
driver's license or driving privileges of that student in
accordance with Title 29-A, section 154-B.

 
Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §154-B is enacted to read:

 
§154-B.__Suspension for truancy

 
When notified by a school superintendent that a student has
been determined habitually truant under Title 20-A, section
5051, the Secretary of State may notify the student in writing
that the student's driver's license or driving privileges are
suspended.__Suspension of a license or driving privileges
under this section is for a period of 180 days for the first
occurrence and one year for each subsequent occurrences.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill authorizes the Secretary of State to suspend the
driver's license or driving privileges of a student who is
determined "habitually truant."
