Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §6207, sub-§12 is enacted to read:

12.__Discovery.__There may be no discovery other than under the Maine Rules of Civil Procedure, Rule 36, except by order of court upon a showing of substantial need.__An order permitting discovery must set forth in detail the areas in which substantial need has been shown and the extent to which discovery may take place.

SUMMARY

This bill limits pretrial discovery in libel actions under the marine resources laws to the same extent as civil discovery is limited in forfeiture actions brought under the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 15, section 5822.
