Whereas, the Crossroads Landfill in Norridgewock is a contentious local issue; and

Whereas, the Crossroads Landfill currently may be emitting methane gas into the environment; and

Whereas, the emission of methane gas may be a serious health and safety hazard and may be aggravating the contention surrounding the site; and

Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. Appropriation. The following funds are appropriated from the General Fund to carry out the purposes of this Act.

Testing of Norridgewock Landfill

All Other $25,000

Provides funds for the testing of the Crossroads Landfill in Norridgewock for methane gas and other health and safety concerns.

Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this Act takes effect when approved.

SUMMARY

This bill appropriates $25,000 for testing of methane gas and other health and safety concerns at the Norridgewock Crossroads Landfill.
