| This bill proposes to create a board charged with the duty of |
| identifying and purchasing areas of land for farmland and open |
| space preservation. Unlike the existing Land for Maine's Future |
| Board, which is charged with identifying and purchasing areas of |
| land significant to the State, this new board would identify and |
| purchase land that has local value. In addition to protecting |
| farmland and open space, this new board will oversee the creation |
| of a database of farmers seeking to sell their farms to aspiring |
| farmers. |
