Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 12 MRSA c. 206-A, as amended, is repealed.

 
Sec. 2. Commission report. By January 1, 2002, the Maine Land Use
Regulation Commission, in cooperation with the Department of
Environmental Protection, shall report to the Joint Standing
Committee on Natural Resources on recommendations for reassigning
the commission's responsibilities to the Department of
Environmental Protection. The report must contain proposed
legislation to effect that change. The Joint Standing Committee
on Natural Resources may report out legislation to the Second
Regular Session of the 120th Legislature.

 
Sec. 3. Effective date. Section 1 of this Act takes effect October 1,
2002.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill eliminates the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission
effective October 1, 2002. The bill also directs the commission,
in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protection,
to propose implementing legislation that reassigns its duties to
the department.
