Sec. 1. 32 MRSA §3300-A is enacted to read:

§3300-A.__Identification of persons prescribing medicines on

prescription blanks

A physician who writes a prescription upon a prescription blank shall sign the physician's name and cause that name to be printed, stamped or typed below the signature so that the name of the physician is clearly legible.__The physician's identification number must be included with the name for identification purposes by a pharmacist.

SUMMARY

This bill requires a physician to print, stamp or type the physician's name below the signature blank for prescriptions in order for pharmacists to identify the physician requesting the prescription. The physician's identification number must also be printed, stamped or typed alongside the physician's name.
