An Act To Save the Marine Technology Center and Strengthen Maine's Boatbuilding Workforce

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

     Sec. 1. Partnerships. The Department of Economic and Community Development shall facilitate the formation of partnerships with interested parties to strengthen and secure the future of the Marine Technology Center at Eastport. Parties that should be approached include, but are not limited to, the Washington County Community College, the City of Eastport, the University of Maine System, Maine Maritime Academy, Husson College, Friends of the Boat School or its successor organization and the Maine Marine Trades Association or its successor organization.

     Sec. 2. Report. The Department of Economic and Community Development, with input and assistance from the Washington County Community College and the City of Eastport, shall report the results of its efforts and its recommendations to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over education matters by February 1, 2007.

     Sec. 3. Appropriations and allocations. The following appropriations and allocations are made.

Initiative: Provides one-time funds to facilitate the formation of partnerships to strengthen and secure the future of the Marine Technology Center.

Effective August 23, 2006.
