The bill includes
General Fund appropriations to the Maine Commission on Public Defense
Services of $483,262 in fiscal year 2025-26 and $1,644,548 in fiscal year
2026-27 for one District Defender position, one Assistant District Defender I
position, 4 Assistant District Defender II positions, 2 Paralegal positions,
one Field Investigator position, one Case Manager position and one Office
Specialist I position as well as All Other costs, including rent and parking,
for a public defender office serving Cumberland County. |

It also includes
one-time General Fund appropriations to the Commission of $13,000,000 in
fiscal year 2025-26 and $9,000,000 in 2026-27 to address the shortfall in
funding available to compensate constitutionally and statutorily required
assigned counsel. |
