| Equalizing the tax on non-cigarette tobacco products at $2 per ounce, changing the tax on smoking tobacco to $2 per ounce and reducing the tax on smokeless tobacco to $2 per ounce will increase revenue to the General Fund and increase revenue sharing. The bill provides a General Fund appropriation of $2,000,000 per year to the Comprehensive Cancer Screening, Detection and Prevention Fund program in the Department of Health and Human Services for comprehensive cancer screening. It also includes an appropriation of $10,000 on a one-time basis in fiscal year 2011-12 for Maine Revenue Services to modify the current Tobacco Tax Return and to inform distributors of tobacco products of the changes to the law. | ||||||
