An Act To Impose Liability on a Landlord for Damages Caused by a Tenant's Pet
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 14 MRSA §6030-E is enacted to read:
§ 6030-E. Liability for damages caused by pets
A tenant and that tenant's landlord are jointly and severally liable for damages caused to a 3rd party by that tenant's pet. For purposes of this section, "pet" means any domesticated animal normally maintained in or near the household of its owner.
SUMMARY
This bill provides that a tenant and that tenant's landlord are jointly and severally liable for damages caused to a 3rd party by that tenant's pet.
