An Act To Rename Certain Unorganized Townships in Washington County

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

PART A

Sec. A-1. Cathance Township. Wherever the designation No. 14 Twp. appears or reference is made to that unorganized territory, that designation or reference means Cathance Township.

Sec. A-2. Referendum for ratification. This Part must be submitted to the legal voters residing in the unorganized territory of No. 14 Twp. in Washington County. The date of the submission must be determined by the Washington County Board of Commissioners but may not be later than 6 months after adjournment of the First Regular Session of the 124th Legislature. The Washington County commissioners are authorized to expend such funds as necessary to implement the referendum.

The county commissioners shall cause the preparation of the required ballots, on which they shall state the subject matter of this Part in the following question:

"Do you favor changing the name of No. 14 Twp. to Cathance Township?"

The voters shall indicate by a cross or a check mark placed against the words "Yes" or "No" their opinion of the question.

This Part takes effect immediately upon its acceptance by a majority of the legal voters voting at the election.

The result of the election must be declared by the Washington County commissioners and due certificate filed with the Secretary of State.

PART B

Sec. B-1. Berry Township. Wherever the designation T 18 ED BPP appears or reference is made to that unorganized territory, that designation or reference means Berry Township.

Sec. B-2. Referendum for ratification. This Part must be submitted to the legal voters residing in the unorganized territory of T 18 ED BPP in Washington County. The date of the submission must be determined by the Washington County Board of Commissioners but may not be later than 6 months after adjournment of the First Regular Session of the 124th Legislature. The Washington County commissioners are authorized to expend such funds as necessary to implement the referendum.

The county commissioners shall cause the preparation of the required ballots, on which they shall state the subject matter of this Part in the following question:

"Do you favor changing the name of T 18 ED BPP to Berry Township?”

The voters shall indicate by a cross or a check mark placed against the words "Yes" or "No" their opinion of the question.

This Part takes effect immediately upon its acceptance by a majority of the legal voters voting at the election.

The result of the election must be declared by the Washington County commissioners and due certificate filed with the Secretary of State.

PART C

Sec. C-1. Big Lake Township. Wherever the designation No. 21 Twp. appears or reference is made to that unorganized territory, that designation or reference means Big Lake Township.

Sec. C-2. Referendum for ratification. This Part must be submitted to the legal voters residing in the unorganized territory of No. 21 Twp. in Washington County. The date of the submission must be determined by the Washington County Board of Commissioners but may not be later than 6 months after adjournment of the First Regular Session of the 124th Legislature. The Washington County commissioners are authorized to expend such funds as necessary to implement the referendum.

The county commissioners shall cause the preparation of the required ballots, on which they shall state the subject matter of this Part in the following question:

"Do you favor changing the name of No. 21 Twp. to Big Lake Township?"

Sec. D-2. Referendum for ratification. This Part must be submitted to the legal voters residing in the unorganized territory of T 27 ED BPP in Washington County. The date of the submission must be determined by the Washington County Board of Commissioners but may not be later than 6 months after adjournment of the First Regular Session of the 124th Legislature. The Washington County commissioners are authorized to expend such funds as necessary to implement the referendum.

The county commissioners shall cause the preparation of the required ballots, on which they shall state the subject matter of this Part in the following question:

"Do you favor changing the name of T 27 ED BPP to Greenlaw Chopping Township?"

The voters shall indicate by a cross or a check mark placed against the words "Yes" or "No" their opinion of the question.

PART E

Sec. E-1. Day Block Township. Wherever the designation T 31 MD BPP appears or reference is made to that unorganized territory, that designation or reference means Day Block Township.

Sec. E-2. Referendum for ratification. This Part must be submitted to the legal voters residing in the unorganized territory of T 31 MD BPP in Washington County. The date of the submission must be determined by the Washington County Board of Commissioners but may not be later than 6 months after adjournment of the First Regular Session of the 124th Legislature. The Washington County commissioners are authorized to expend such funds as necessary to implement the referendum.

The county commissioners shall cause the preparation of the required ballots, on which they shall state the subject matter of this Part in the following question:

"Do you favor changing the name of T 31 MD BPP to Day Block Township?"

The voters shall indicate by a cross or a check mark placed against the words "Yes" or "No" their opinion of the question.

This bill authorizes the Washington County commissioners to seek approval from the residents of No. 14 Twp. to rename the township Cathance Township; the residents of T 18 ED BPP to rename the township Berry Township; the residents of No. 21 Twp. to rename the township Big Lake Township; the residents of T 27 ED BPP to rename the township Greenlaw Chopping Township; and the residents of T 31 MD BPP to rename the township Day Block Township.
