Sec. 1. 23 MRSA §401, as amended by PL 1991, c. 409, §2, is further amended to read:

§401. Construction, reconstruction and improvement

The construction, reconstruction and improvement of all bridges on state highways and all approaches to those bridges are borne wholly by the State except as otherwise provided in this Title.

Sec. 2. 23 MRSA §402 is amended to read:

§402. Maintenance

The cost of maintenance of all bridges on state highways, and all approaches thereto, shall be is borne wholly by the State.

Sec. 3. 23 MRSA c. 9, sub-c. 4-A, as amended, is repealed.

SUMMARY

This bill provides property tax relief by requiring the State to construct, improve and maintain all bridges in Maine, regardless of the size of the bridge or whether the bridge is located on a state, state aid or local road.
