| | | Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §2054, sub-§2, ķA, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, | | Pt. A, §2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read: |

| | | A. Only an ambulance; an emergency medical service | | vehicle; a fire department vehicle; a police vehicle; a | | Department of Conservation vehicle used for forest fire | | control; a Department of Corrections vehicle as described | | in subsection 1, paragraph B, subparagraph (6); a school | | bus; and a highway maintenance vehicle may be equipped | | with a device that provides for alternate flashing of the | | vehicle's headlights. |

| | | Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §2312 is enacted to read: |

| | | At all times during the operation of a school bus, an | | operator of a school bus shall keep lit the headlights and | | daytime running lights, if equipped, of the bus.__A school bus | | brought into service after the effective date of this section | | must be equipped with daytime running lights. |

| | | This bill amends the law to allow school buses to be | | equipped with a device that provides for alternate flashing of | | the headlights. In addition, this bill requires operators of | | school buses to keep the headlights and daytime running lights | | on at all times of operation. School buses coming into | | operation after the effective date of this Act must be | | equipped with daytime running lights. |
