Sec. 1. 25 MRSA §2934 is enacted to read:

§2934.__Multiline telephone systems

1.__Requirement.__Any privately owned or leased telephone system shall provide to end users the same level of enhanced 9-1-1 services that other end users in the State receive, including:

A.__Automatic number identification signaling;

B.__Station identification data; and

C.__Updates to enhanced 9-1-1 databases.

2.__Compliance.__Compliance with this section is required when activating a new or replaced multiline telephone system.

3.__Exception; rules.__The bureau may waive the provisions of this section for any privately owned or leased telephone system in accordance with rules adopted by the bureau.__Rules adopted by the bureau to implement this section are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.

SUMMARY

This bill requires privately owned or leased multiline telephone systems to provide to end users the same level of E- 9-1-1 service that nonmultiline end users receive, which include: automatic number identification signaling, station identification data and updates to E-9-1-1 databases. This bill requires multiline telephone systems that are newly installed or replaced to be compliant with routine technical rules adopted by the Department of Public Safety, Emergency Services Communication Bureau.
