Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §405, sub-§1, ķA, as enacted by PL 1993, c. 683, Pt. A, §2 and affected by Pt. B, §5, is amended to read:

A. A registration expires annually on the last day of the birth month one year from the month of issuance of the owner of the vehicle. If more than one person's name appears on the title, the registration expires on the last day of the birth month of the first-listed owner of the vehicle following registration.__The initial registration must be prorated if the period of time until the registration expires is less than 11 months.__If the vehicle is not owned by a person, then the provisions of subsection 2 apply.

Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §1751, sub-§5 is enacted to read:

5.__Expiration.__An inspection sticker issued pursuant to section 1758 expires at the same time as the vehicle's registration issued pursuant to section 405, subsection 1 or subsection 2, whichever is applicable.

SUMMARY

This bill requires the registration and inspection of a vehicle to expire on the last day of the birth month of the person registering the vehicle.
