Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §1771 is enacted to read:

§1771.__Motor Vehicle Inspection Advisory Board

1.__Motor Vehicle Inspection Advisory Board.__The Motor Vehicle Inspection Advisory Board, established by Title 5, section 12004-I, subsection 67-A and referred to in this section as "the board," shall assist the Chief of the State Police to perform the responsibilities required under this chapter.__The board consists of 8 voting members appointed by the Chief of the State Police as follows:

A.__One legislative member who is a member of the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over transportation matters;

B.__One member representing the Maine State Police;

C.__One member representing a statewide association of new car dealers;

D.__One member representing a statewide association of tow truck operators;

E.__One member representing official inspection stations;

F.__One member representing fleet operators; and

G.__Two members representing a statewide independent automotive service association including:

(1)__One member representing mechanical repair shops; and

(2)__One member representing collision repair shops.

2.__Duties.__The board shall assist and advise the Chief of the State Police on matters involving the inspection of motor vehicles in the State and other matters brought before the board by the Chief of the State Police.
