| | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows: |

| | | Sec. 1. 33 MRSA §752, sub-§3, as enacted by PL 1997, c. 503, §1, is | | amended to read: |

| | | 3. Expenditures from account. The money in the account | | established in subsection 2 must be used for the restoration, | | re-creation and preservation of the records recorded in the | | office of the register of deeds, including preservation by | | creation of a digital image stored on magnetic or optical | | media. |

| | | Sec. 2. 33 MRSA §752, sub-§4, as amended by PL 2001, c. 317, §1, is | | further amended to read: |

| | | 4. Repeal. This section is repealed January 1, 2005 |
|
| | | This bill clarifies that the types of restoration used for | | the preservation of documents and paid for by a special | | nonlapsing account includes preservation by creation of a | | digital image stored on magnetic or optical media. The bill | | also amends the repeal date for the section from January 1, | | 2005 to January 1, 2008. |
