SUMMARY

This bill appropriates $3,000,000 to provide assistance in the planning and construction of the Franco-American Heritage Center at St. Mary's in Lewiston to promote the academic, economic, social and cultural heritage of Franco-Americans in the State. The center will transform the existing St. Mary's Church into an all-purpose performance hall, museum and learning center.

This bill provides $30,000 to the Moosehead Marine Museum to assist the museum in the renovation of its flagship, the Katahdin, including repairs to its deck.

The bill provides $1,000,000 to the Center Theater, Inc. to provide assistance in the planning and construction of the Center Theater in Dover-Foxcroft. The Center Theater, Inc. is a not- for-profit corporation that will renovate and operate the existing Center Theater as a performing and visual arts center in downtown Dover-Foxcroft.

This bill also appropriates $1,000,000 to match federal grants to plan and construct the Downeast Heritage Center on the St. Croix River in Calais and to promote tourism and economic growth in Washington County. These funds, combined with the $1,000,000 already appropriated, will provide a total of $2,000,000 for the center.
