G.__Is part of a long-term strategy to maintain a systematic professional development effort;

H.__Offers a wide variety of approaches including an array of reflective and analytical opportunities tailored to suit the needs of each teacher; and

I.__Requires each participating school to devote resources of its own.

Sec. 2. Appropriation. The following funds are appropriated from the General Fund to carry out the purposes of this Act.

Provides funding for matching grants for professional development of teachers to assist in implementation of the system of learning results for public schools.

SUMMARY

This bill establishes and provides funding for the Fund for the Professional Development of Maine Teachers. The fund will provide matching grants to school administrative units to be used for professional development of teachers in order to better implement the system of learning results for public schools. The bill also establishes standards by which applications for grants for professional development programs for teachers will be judged.
