Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §1002, sub-§5 is enacted to read:

5.__Participants in legal action.__A person or the spouse of a person who is engaged in legal action against a school board, a public school within the jurisdiction of that school board or the school administrative unit governed by that school board may not serve on the board if the legal action may result in material gain to the person or the spouse.

SUMMARY

This bill prohibits a person and the spouse of a person suing a school board, the school administrative unit or a school within the jurisdiction of the board from serving on that school board if the suit could result in material gain.
