Sec. 1. Appropriation. The following funds are appropriated from the General Fund to carry out the purposes of this Act.

Provides funds to develop, direct and assess accelerated learning programs for high school students in the areas of math, science and engineering.

SUMMARY

This bill implements one of the recommendations of the Joint Select Committee on Research and Development. It appropriates funds to the University of Maine System to develop, direct and assess accelerated learning programs for high school students. These programs may include course work on campus or delivered through technology, summer academies and mentoring by faculty. The goal of the programs will be to increase opportunities for high school students to learn about and experience success in postsecondary math, science and engineering programs.
