| | | Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §4703, as enacted by PL 1983, c. 859, Pt. C, §§5 | | and 7, is amended to read: |
|
| | | §4703. Instruction for gifted and talented students in |
|
| | | accordance with chapter 311. |
|
| | | Elementary and secondary schools may shall employ a teacher to | | provide special instruction for gifted and talented students. |
|
| | | Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §8104, sub-§1, as amended by PL 1997, c. 696, §5, is | | further amended to read: |
|
| | | 1. Establishment. Each school administrative unit must, | | commencing with the 1987-88 school year, establish a plan for | | phasing in gifted and talented educational programs. A school | | administrative unit or part of a school administrative unit is | | not required to comply with the provisions of its plan during the | school years beginning in the fall of 1998 and 1999. |

| | | This bill requires schools to employ a teacher to offer | | instruction to gifted and talented students. This bill also | | eliminates the postponement of a school administrative unit's | | plan to provide for a gifted and talented educational program | | during the 1999-2000 school year. |
