| | | Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §12551, as amended by PL 1997, c. 160, §1, is | | repealed. |

| | | Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §12553-A is enacted to read: |

| | | §12553-A.__Tuition waiver for final-year students at state |
|
| | | postsecondary educational institutions |
|
| | | A student who is a resident of the State and enrolled in the | | final year of a 4-year or 2-year degree program at a state | | postsecondary educational institution is eligible for a waiver of | | 50% of the tuition charges for that year.__A tuition waiver | | granted under this section is in addition to other financial aid | | available to a student, except that the student may not receive | | tuition financial aid equal to an amount greater than the cost of | | tuition. |

| | | This bill provides a waiver of 50% of the tuition for the last | | year of study of a Maine resident enrolled in a 4-year or 2-year | | degree program at any of the campuses of the University of Maine | | System or the Maine Technical College System or at the Maine | | Maritime Academy. |
