Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

 
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §12551, as amended by PL 1997, c. 160, §1, is
repealed.

 
Sec. 2. 20-A MRSA §12553-A is enacted to read:

 
§12553-A.__Tuition waiver for final-year students at state

 
postsecondary educational institutions

 
A student who is a resident of the State and enrolled in the
final year of a 4-year or 2-year degree program at a state
postsecondary educational institution is eligible for a waiver of
50% of the tuition charges for that year.__A tuition waiver
granted under this section is in addition to other financial aid
available to a student, except that the student may not receive
tuition financial aid equal to an amount greater than the cost of
tuition.

 
SUMMARY

 
This bill provides a waiver of 50% of the tuition for the last
year of study of a Maine resident enrolled in a 4-year or 2-year
degree program at any of the campuses of the University of Maine
System or the Maine Technical College System or at the Maine
Maritime Academy.
