RESOLVES
First Regular Session of the 119th

CHAPTER 9

Resolve, to Name the Route 160 Bridge in Brownfield Spanning the Saco River the Charles E. Hill Memorial Bridge

     Emergency preamble. Whereas, Acts and resolves of the Legislature do not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and

     Whereas, the municipal officers of the Town of Brownfield desire that the Legislature approve the naming of a currently unnamed bridge in that town the Charles E. Hill Memorial Bridge; and

     Whereas, that bridge is the portion of Route 160 that crosses the Saco River and is to be named for a prominent citizen of the town who was instrumental in bringing positive changes, modern conveniences and employment to the town; and

     Whereas, Charles E. Hill was from one of the first families of Brownfield and the town is eager to recognize him and his achievements; and

     Whereas, in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore, be it

     Sec. 1. Charles E. Hill Memorial Bridge. Resolved: That the bridge on Route 160 that crosses the Saco River in the Town of Brownfield, Oxford County, be named the Charles E. Hill Memorial Bridge and that the Department of Transportation erect a sign indicating the name of this bridge.

     Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this resolve takes effect when approved.

Effective April 5, 1999.
