CHAPTER 52
H.P. 263 - L.D. 327

An Act to Expand Access to Maine's Technical Colleges

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. Matching appropriation. The $300,000 appropriation provided to the Maine Technical College System by section 2 of this Act must be matched by an equal amount raised by the system through a fund-raising campaign between July 1, 1997 and June 30, 1999. Each college must raise funds equal to at least 50% of the state funds identified for that college as determined by the board of trustees. For purposes of this Act, matching funds may be in the form of cash, grants, equipment or supplies. If the system is unable to raise the entire $300,000 in matching funds, the system shall return to the State by June 30, 1999 the portion of this appropriation that the system is unable to match. The funds must be used to increase system enrollment by approximately 85 students.

Sec. 2. Appropriation. The following funds are appropriated from the General Fund to carry out the purposes of this Act.

          1998-99
MAINE TECHNICAL COLLEGE SYSTEM, BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE
Maine Technical College System - Board of Trustees

Provides funds that, when matched by an equal amount raised by the colleges through a fund-raising campaign, will be used to increase system enrollment by approximately 85 students.
