PART SS

     Sec. SS-1. Report. The Department of Education and the Department of Corrections shall jointly review all educational programs at the Maine Youth Center. The departments shall report their findings to the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs and the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs no later than July 1, 1998. After receiving comments from the joint standing committees, the Department of Education and the Department of Corrections shall prepare a school approval corrective action plan and submit the plan along with any implementing legislation to the Legislative Council no later than January 1, 1999.

     Sec. SS-2. Plan implementation; progress monitored. The Department of Corrections is responsible for the implementation of the school approval plan. The Department of Education is responsible for monitoring the progress of the plan and shall provide technical assistance as requested.

     Sec. SS-3. Annual review. The joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over appropriations and financial affairs and the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over education and cultural affairs shall annually review the progress made by the Department of Corrections in implementing the school approval corrective action plan.
