This bill
requires that, contingent upon available funding, the Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP) design and implement a take-back and disposal
program by July 1, 2027, for firefighting and fire-suppressing foam located
in the state that contains perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances. The
DEP has indicated if funding is available, it will use contracted services to
complete these requirements. The bill includes an ongoing allocation of $500
beginning in fiscal year 2025-26 to establish the account and to allow for
acceptance of private and public funds as they become available. |
|
Any additional
costs to the Department of Public Safety to consult with the DEP are expected
to be minor and can be absorbed within existing budgeted resources. |
