Adds physical education, career studies and life skills as courses that must be provided to all secondary students as a requirement for a high school diploma.  Also adds one additional year of study in the required subjects of mathematics, science and social studies that secondary schools must provide in order for students to receive a high school diploma. This bill includes General Fund appropriations of $28,787,536 in fiscal year 2017-18 and $29,248,138 in fiscal year 2018-19 to the General Purpose Aid for Local Schools program within the Department of Education to fund 90% of the cost to school administrative units to increase the secondary school requirements for mathematics, social studies and science by one year, to require documentation of participation in physical education activities that occur outside of the classroom structure and to add career studies and life skills as courses that must be provided to all secondary school students in order to receive a high school diploma.

The Department of Education has indicated that it will incur costs to implement the requirements of this legislation, including training, standards and statutory review, the amount of which can not be estimated at this time.
