An Act To Confer Categorical Eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Benefit Applications
Preliminary Fiscal Impact Statement for Original Bill
Sponsor: Rep. Hamann of South Portland
Committee: Health and Human Services
Fiscal Note Required: Yes

Preliminary Fiscal Impact Statement
Current biennium cost increase - Federal Block Grant Fund
Potential current biennium cost increase - General Fund
Fiscal Detail and Notes
Federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are reimbursed by the federal government directly to the merchant and do not flow through the State of Maine. Therefore, there would be no fiscal impact associated with benefit costs to the Department of Health and Human Services. However, there could be a potential increase to the SNAP administrative costs for increased Electronic Benefit Transfer transactions and technology changes that may be needed to the Automated Client Eligibility System which are currently unable to be determined.
