Amend the bill by striking out the title and substituting the following:

‘An Act To Create a Small Communities Tourism Grant Program’

Amend the bill by striking out everything after the enacting clause and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. 5 MRSA §13090-K, sub-§4  is enacted to read:

4 Small communities tourism grant program.   To the extent funds are available, a minimum of $10,000 of the funds received annually by the Tourism Marketing Promotion Fund in accordance with subsection 2 must be used for a small communities tourism grant program, referred to in this subsection as "the program." Program funds must be used to award grants of $1,000 to $2,000 to municipalities or nonprofit agencies to match public and private funds to promote tourism in small communities and events that are designed to attract individuals who reside at least 50 miles from those small communities. Grant recipients may not receive a 2nd or subsequent award from the program for the same event but may receive grants from other programs funded by the Tourism Marketing Promotion Fund for that event. For the purposes of this subsection, "small community" means a municipality with a population of fewer than 7,000 individuals.

summary

This amendment, which is the majority report of the committee, replaces the bill. The amendment creates a small communities tourism grant program to issue matching grants to small communities to promote tourism and events. The $10,000 annual funding for this program derives from the tax revenues received by the Tourism Marketing Promotion Fund.
