An Act To Establish Districtwide Standardized Assessment Policies
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §1001, sub-§20 is enacted to read:
20. Standardized assessment policy. With input from parents, teachers and school administrators, each school board shall adopt a districtwide policy regarding standardized assessments under the state assessment program established pursuant to section 6202. The policy must:
A. Identify the number of standardized assessments a student is expected to take;
B. Identify the anticipated amount of time a student will spend on taking assessments;
C. Establish a plan to inform parents of the assessment schedule; and
D. Develop a method for determining the usefulness of the standardized assessments.
SUMMARY
This bill requires school boards, with input from parents, teachers and school administrators, to adopt districtwide policies regarding standardized assessments.
