An Act To Require a Dealer To Sell a Gun Lock with Every New Firearm

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 25 MRSA §2014  is enacted to read:

§ 2014 Sale of firearm to include gun lock

1 Definitions.   As used in this section, unless the context otherwise indicates, the following terms have the following meanings.
A "Firearm" has the same meaning as in Title 17-A, section 2, subsection 12-A.
B "Firearm dealer" means a person who is licensed as a dealer under 18 United States Code, Section 923, or who is required to be licensed as a dealer under that section.
C "Gun lock" means a device external to a firearm or part of a firearm that prevents the firearm from discharging until the device is removed or deactivated and is approved by a firearm safety device laboratory recognized by the California Department of Justice.
2 Requirement.   A firearm dealer may not sell at retail a firearm without also selling the purchaser a gun lock for that firearm.

This bill requires a firearm dealer to sell a gun lock with every firearm the dealer sells at retail in the State.
