The required local activities in this bill represents a State mandate pursuant to the Constitution of Maine.  General Fund appropriations are provided to fund 90% of the additional costs.
Fiscal Detail and Notes
This bill establishes the Carbon Monoxide Detectors for Schools account within the Department of Education and provides a one-time General Fund appropriation of $100,602 in fiscal year 2013-14 to the account for the purpose of paying 90% of the total cost to local school administrative units to purchase and install carbon monoxide detectors in school buildings.  This fiscal note is based on the following:
Assumptions:
1)  cost of the carbon monoxide detector $30
2)  number of units installed per building 6
3)  number of school buildings statewide requiring carbon monoxide detectors 621
Additional costs to the Department of Education to establish procedures to reimburse local school administrative units for 90% of the cost to purchase and install carbon monoxide detectors can be absorbed within existing budgeted resources.
