Resolve, To Require the Director of the Bureau of Maine Veterans' Services To Report on the Administration of the Coordinated Veterans Assistance Fund

Emergency preamble. Whereas,  acts and resolves of the Legislature do not become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and

Whereas,  delays in the provision of vital health care services to veterans are common and have significant negative effects on the lives of veterans; and

Whereas,  ensuring that efforts to assist veterans in receiving services and necessary health care benefits from the Federal Government are being conducted efficiently and expediently is critical to the well-being of veterans in Maine; and

Whereas,  in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, therefore, be it

Sec. 1. Director of Bureau of Maine Veterans' Services to report on Coordinated Veterans Assistance Fund. Resolved: That the Director of the Bureau of Maine Veterans' Services within the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management shall report to the Joint Standing Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs no later than March 15, 2014 regarding the administration of the Coordinated Veterans Assistance Fund as established by the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 37-B, section 514. The report must include an accounting of the revenues deposited into the fund in 2013 and how those funds are being distributed to the designated recipients as required by Title 37-B, section 514.

Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this legislation takes effect when approved.

This resolve requires the Director of the Bureau of Maine Veterans' Services within the Department of Defense, Veterans and Emergency Management to report to the Joint Standing Committee on Veterans and Legal Affairs on the Coordinated Veterans Assistance Fund.
