Amend the bill by striking out the title and substituting the following:

‘Resolve, To Encourage the Use of Career Interest and Aptitude Tests in Higher Education’

Amend the bill by striking out everything after the title and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. Review options for career interest tests and priority in course registration. Resolved: That the Education Coordinating Committee established in the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, section 9 shall review the options for the administration of career interest tests for students enrolled in a postsecondary education program at the Maine Community College System, the University of Maine System or the Maine Maritime Academy. As part of its review, the Education Coordinating Committee shall consider options to allow a student to receive priority in course registration if the student takes and submits a career interest test prior to registration, in accordance with procedures approved by the Maine Community College System, the University of Maine System or the Maine Maritime Academy. For purposes of this section, "career interest test" includes any test approved by the Maine Community College System, the University of Maine System or the Maine Maritime Academy the results of which indicate a person's career interests or aptitudes; and be it further

Sec. 2. Report. Resolved: That the Education Coordinating Committee shall prepare and submit a report, including its findings and any recommended legislation, based on its review under section 1 to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs by February 1, 2014. The Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs may submit a bill to the Second Regular Session of the 126th Legislature related to the report submitted by the Education Coordinating Committee.’

SUMMARY

This amendment strikes and replaces the bill with a resolve that directs the Education Coordinating Committee to review options that would allow a student enrolled in a postsecondary education program at the Maine Community College System, the University of Maine System or the Maine Maritime Academy to receive priority in course registration if the student takes and submits a career interest test prior to course registration, in accordance with procedures approved by the Maine Community College System, the University of Maine System or the Maine Maritime Academy.
