Amend the amendment in section 1 in §1646 by striking out all of subsection 2 (page 1, lines 18 to 22 in amendment) and inserting the following:

2 Lyme disease testing information disclosure.   Every health care provider that orders a laboratory test for the presence of Lyme disease shall provide the patient with a copy of the results of the test.

Amend the amendment in section 2 in subsection 3 in the last line (page 1, line 35 in amendment) by striking out the following: "and"

Amend the amendment in section 2 by striking out all of subsection 4 (page 2, lines 1 to 3 in amendment) and inserting the following:

‘4. A negative result for a Lyme disease test does not necessarily mean that Lyme disease is not present and if symptoms continue, the patient should contact a health care provider and inquire about the appropriateness of retesting or additional treatment; and

5. Information on treatment alternatives for treating Lyme disease is available through Internet websites of organizations, including, but not limited to, MaineLyme, Lyme Disease Association, the Mayo Clinic, the National Institutes of Health and WebMD.’

SUMMARY

This amendment requires a health care provider to give a patient a copy of the results of a Lyme disease test, requires the Maine Center for Disease Control to include information on its website about negative test results and expands the list of information resources that must be included on the website.
