Potential current biennium cost increase - General Fund
Fiscal Detail and Notes
Extending the salary supplement that is currently provided to public school teachers who have attained certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to include teachers at publicly supported secondary schools, which includes certain private secondary schools that enroll 60% or more publicly funded students, may increase the number of teachers that qualify for the supplement.  The Governor's proposed budget for the 2012-2013 biennium includes $307,551 in fiscal year 2011-12 as part of the General Fund appropriation to the General Purpose Aid to Local Schools program to fund the salary supplement based on current law.  Since the number of additional teachers that may qualify for the salary supplement as a result of this legislation can not be determined at this time, it is unclear as to whether the funding in the proposed biennial budget will be sufficient to cover the additional cost without additional General Fund support or prorating the amount of the salary supplement.
