Referendum Costs Month/Year Election Type Question Length
Nov-11 General Referendum Standard
The Secretary of State's budget includes sufficient funds to accommodate one ballot of average length for the general election in November.  If the number or size of the referendum questions requires production and delivery of a second ballot, an additional appropriation of $107,250 may be required.
Fiscal Detail and Notes
If approved by the voters, this requirement may result in future costs to the Legislature, if the Senate and House are required to meet in joint session to order a runoff election.  The projected cost for a one-day special session is approximately $45,000.
The estimated cost to the State for an additional special runoff election based on current costs would be approximately $125,000 for the cost of the ballots.  Municipalities would also incur additional costs estimated to be roughly $300,000 statewide.
