An Act To Allow a Driver To Receive a Designation on That Driver's License That the Driver Is a Veteran

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. Veteran designation. The Secretary of State shall, at the request of a licensee who has been honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States, issue a license to that licensee with a designation on that license that identifies the licensee as a veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States. To receive the designation, the licensee must provide appropriate documentation indicating that the licensee served in and was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States. The Secretary of State shall determine the design and location on the license for the designation required by this section.

Sec. 2. Effective date. This Act takes effect when the Secretary of State next redesigns the State driver's license or implements a more cost-effective method of carrying out the purposes of this Act, whichever is sooner.

This bill requires the Secretary of State to place a designation on a driver’s license indicating that the licensee is an honorably discharged veteran upon receiving documentation that the licensee served in and was honorably discharged from the Armed Forces of the United States.
