An Act To Reduce the Minimum Amount of Product Required To Be Purchased by Agency Liquor Stores for Licensure

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:

Sec. 1. 28-A MRSA §453, sub-§2-C, ¶B,  as enacted by PL 2009, c. 213, Pt. JJJJ, §2, is amended to read:

B. The applicant will be able to stock at least $10,000 $5,000 worth of spirits purchased from the State or the State's wholesale distributor upon issuance of an agency liquor store license; and

Sec. 2. Rulemaking. The Department of Public Safety, bureau of liquor enforcement shall amend its rule Chapter 14: Merchandising and Stock to implement the provisions of this Act. Rules adopted pursuant to this section are routine technical rules as defined in the Maine Revised Statutes, Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.

This bill reduces the minimum dollar amount of product an agency liquor store is required to stock in order to be licensed from $10,000 to $5,000. The bill also requires the Department of Public Safety to amend its rules to implement the provisions of the bill.
