An Act To Require Vegetable Gardens at State Prisons

Sec. 1. 34-A MRSA §3014  is enacted to read:

§ 3014.  Vegetable gardens

A correctional or detention facility operated by the department that has available space on its grounds shall establish a vegetable garden for food to be used by the department for feeding prisoners in that facility and other facilities operated by the department. The prisoners of the facility shall maintain the vegetable garden for the facility. The commissioner may adopt rules to carry out the purposes of this section. Rules adopted pursuant to this section are routine technical rules as defined in Title 5, chapter 375, subchapter 2-A.
