Amend the bill by striking out everything after the enacting clause and before the summary and inserting the following:

Sec. 1. 20-A MRSA §2951,   as amended by PL 2005, c. 153, §2, is further amended by adding at the end a new paragraph to read:

A legislative body of a municipality may adopt an ordinance to raise or appropriate money to reimburse all or part of tuition to parents of students who attend private schools.

Sec. 2. 30-A MRSA §5724, last ¶,  as enacted by PL 1987, c. 737, Pt. A, §2 and Pt. C, §106 and amended by PL 1989, c. 6; c. 9, §2; and c. 104, Pt. C, §§8 and 10, is further amended to read:

A municipality may not provide services, materials or equipment for use in religious courses, devotional exercises, religious training or any other religious activity. A legislative body of a municipality may adopt an ordinance to raise or appropriate money to reimburse all or part of tuition to parents of students who attend private schools.

SUMMARY

This amendment replaces the bill. It allows municipalities to adopt ordinances to raise or appropriate money to reimburse all or part of tuition to parents of students who attend private schools.
