An Act To Amend the Law Governing Employment, Discipline and Dismissal of Chief Deputy Sheriffs
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §501, sub-§5 is enacted to read:
5. Application to chief deputy. Subsections 1, 2 and 3 do not apply to the appointment, dismissal, suspension or discipline of a chief deputy by a sheriff.

This bill provides that the selection, employment and disciplinary restrictions placed on county officers and department heads with respect to their employees do not apply to a county sheriff with respect to the sheriff's chief deputy.
